* New Book of Lee Kuan Yew

On Lee Kuan Yew’s latest book and what people are saying about it

Lets look at the facts.

Lee Kuan Yew is judging BN from a position of great familiarity, where he knows that the status quo maintains Singapore’s perceived superiority, after having worked with them since day one. So We have every reason to buy his observations of BN.
However, with due respect, the minister mentor have had limited to no involvement with Pakatan leadership or policies, and most definitely would have no experience of dealing with ‘post BN Malaysia’, therefore is in no position to comment on Pakatan’s prospective federal administration.

I think that the minister mentor has done a great job in building a nation that looks, smells, feels like Utopia. I am not about to comment on whether it is one or not, I will leave it to Singaporeans to do that through their ballot boxes.

I would however urge all Malaysians to hang fire on taking the Minister mentor’s words as gospel, and sit back in comtemplation of the following questions:

1) Is LKY’s judgement/ observation/ hypotheis skewed and biased, so as to strengthen and assist in his agenda of maintaining the status quo, given that there’s every reason to believe that a backflow of Malaysian talent brought about by a better Malaysia would be a negative factor to Singapore’s talent pool?

2) Is Singapore really meritocratic? Or is it elitism, chauvinism, and a hint of ‘just-short-of institutionalized’ racism in the guise of meritocracy, garnished with a generous shaking of authoritarian media control… oh, and don’t forget the ever popular ISA?

3) Or is this another BN creative Pakatan bashing ploy, by inviting LKY’s non-chalant, half hearted attack on BN, just to lend credence to some even more half hearted bashing of PR? They know that most of the BN support base who would buy this book and gives two hoots about what LKY would say, already know what’s wrong about BN whose livelihoods depends on preserving the very thing LKY critiques BN for. That leaves BN with a net gain of some fence sitters who wrongly thinks the sun shines out of Singapore’s proverbial glutes... or even sway some PR supporters.

Or…maybe…maybe just..

4) The publisher, like all publishers would, studied the target audience of this book and concluded and advised LKY that this is the best angle to get maximum attention and sales for this book… a few editing back-and-forths later… viola! the book is the talk of the nation!

Whatever it is, just because he's right in his observations on BN, by no means is he right on his speculations of a Pakatan administered Malaysia.

If I had to guess which of the above four is most likely to be the case, I would put a big bet on number 4.

Why? you may ask...

Because I am now off to go and buy the book after reading some excerpts on line.

Clever old fox, that Lee Kuan Yew.
